The John R. Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement

The Kernodle Center is Elon University's service and community hub. Housed in Mosley Center room 230, this organization reaches out to those in need in Alamance County. Many different service options can be found in the Kernodle Center. Elon Volunteers, the Umbrella Organization supports multitudes of service options at Elon, and is run by the center. The Kernodle Center helps provide service opportunities to the Service Learning Community, where freshmen opt to live and serve together for a year. The center also organizes alternative break trips for students hoping to experience service during the school vacations.

In order to better connect with the community, Elon built the Downtown Center of Community Engagement at 217 East Davis Street, Burlington, NC. Kernodle also organizes the Leaders in Collaborative Service, or LINCS, program. This allows student advocates to act as the go-betweens for Elon and different community organizations. Through this, Elon is partnered with Allied Churches, Burlington Housing Authority, Kopper Top Life Learning Center, Salvation Army Food Pantry, Positive Attitude Youth Center, Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, and Cummings High School. The Kernodle Center gets its name from John Robert Kernodle Jr., a Christian Minister known for being passionate about community service in North Carolina.
