Zeta Phi Beta (Xi Omicron Chapter)
The Xi Omicron Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta ("Zetas") was founded twenty years ago this fall at Elon University. Chartered on September 23, 1993, they are one of twelve sororities currently part of the Elon University. Known as the “Oh So Sweet”, the historically African American sorority recruits new members during the “deferred rush” for students in their second semester at Elon. Potential members must meet academic and personal requirements, including a GPA minimum of 2.5, having at least twelve credits, and being in overall good standing with the university.
Part of the Zeta Phi Beta sorority national focus is the Stork’s Nest program, which is in a partnership with the March of Dimes to help prevent birth defects and infant mortality. The joint program uses incentives and education to promote prenatal care and healthy behaviors during pregnancy. The ZPB chapter also helps serve the community through their national Z-Hope “Zetas Helping Other People Excel Project” program. The Zeta Phi Beta chapter is very involved with greek life on campus, with the National Pan-Hellenic Council, recruitment, and philanthropy. The chapter holds a yearly fundraiser, The Annual Fish Fry, every September with the Alpha Beta Beta Chapter of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity. They are also part of the university’s NPHC Memorial Garden Monument Dedication.
