Founded in 2011, the Adelaide Hills International Sculpture Symposium is an incorporated not for profit community based organisation formed to develop an exciting Arts initiative for the Adelaide Hills and South Australia. Internationally recognized sculptor and Adelaide Hills resident Silvio Apponyi had a vision to ‘Enrich the Hills with Sculpture’.
The Hills Sculpture Trail
In 2012 the first of three biennial events brought together internationally recognised sculptors from Switzerland, South Korea, Turkey, Spain, and Japan to join their three Australian colleagues. The resulting first 8 world class sculptures have begun a Sculpture Trail which after three events will have 24 major pieces permanently placed in the communities of the Adelaide Hills. These works will leave an enduring legacy of culture for the communities and for visitors to the Adelaide Hills, delivering significant cultural, social, economic and tourism benefits for South Australia.
The Sculpture Symposium 2012
What a truly amazing display of sculptures took place throughout April at The Cedars, Hahndorf.
Thousands of people attended from the 9th to 29th April 2012. On the final Sunday, it was almost impossible to get a carpark -- so many people were there to see these extraordinary exhibits and to place their vote for Peoples Choice -- what an almost impossible decision to make!! Lobethal was the choice but this in no way detracted from all seven other wonderful Sculptures which are now to be placed in strategic positions in the Hills! - (see below)
