1.  Meet John MUELLER

Reveals how John, a farmer from Paechtown, came to hold this historic collection, his relationship to one of the main photographers, & the connection between the photographer, his wife [KUCHEL] & the photographed subjects.

2.  'John MUELLER Publication Collections'.

Consists mainly of 20 German Books out of 22 publications, 13 books published before 1900

Four of the oldest books are dated 1683-1826 & could have been on the 'Zebra' in 1838,

3.  Philippine PIETSCH & Joseph BRAENDLER

Val BRAENDLER provides context to their departure & arrival on the 'Adele' in 1856 with 8 children.  It connects the 4 BRAENDLER brothers that married LIEBELT's, & the 2 BRAENDLERS who married PAECH sisters, as well as many wedding photographs.

Two in particular that identify the home at 532 Echunga Rd, Echunga as having been separately owned by two 1st cousins, both named Johann August LIEBELT,

4.  SEIFFERT & KUCHEL & STEINBORN & LIEBELT

Anna Dorothea SEIFFERT & Johann Georg KUCHEL arrived 1838, with 3 sons, their eldest son Johann Gottfried Erdmann married his 1st cousin & arrived later, in 1845. Erdmann's wife's [Johanna Dorothea Elisabeth KUCHEL]  father was  Daniel KUCHEL whose older daughter was Maria Elizabeth KUCHEL  Maria Elisabeth KUCHEL married Johann Christian LIEBELT & they arrived in 1839, Christian's parents were Anna Elisabeth STEINBORN & Johann Christoph LIEBELT who arrived 1838 with the SEIFFERT & KUCHEL family, on the 'Prince George'.  Anna Elisabeth STEINBORN was one of the oldest Prussians to arrive in South Australia in 1838/9.  The geography of where they came from is examined.

The connection is made with 106 Main Street, Hahndorf, as well as the LUBASCH & LIEBELT pioneering property on Echunga Road, at Friedrichstadt as well as the area known as Kirchenbergen. A newspaper report blames the family of Gottfried Erdmann KUCHEL for his premature death in 1869 from an accident near the Oakfield Hotel, [built in Mt Barker by Lachlan MacFARLAN who had married a LUBASCH.]. There is also an architectural summary of the early KUCHEL house and an attempt to identify the individuals in the photo.

7.  Nickolaus Frederich Carl FAEHRMANN.

In this article there are photographs of the blacksmith business in front of 108 Main St, Hahndorf, one photo shows Nickolaus with his 2 children just a year before his tragic death.  You can read an interesting story [involving a number of Hahndorf families], of how, known as 'Fritz', at 16 years of age in 1888, he was found guilt of assault and as a result we look at the GALLASCH, GREGOR, MARTIN, PANJAS, RODERT, THIELE, WALTROWICZ, & WILLEMER families. I also explore the working relationship between Nickolaus's father & the WILLIMERS.  I trace Fritz's wedding, wife & the birth of their 3 children, & in some detail the origins & history of the 2 adjoining blocks of land 108 & 106 Main St, Hahndorf. Three newspapers reported on 34 year old Nickolaus's tragic death including the horrible injuries to his helper Charles HIGGINS.
