From the age of 15 German women washed & sheared sheep at various properties in rural & remote South Australia

Many Hahndorf women travelled hundreds of kilometres to shear each season

They began shearing in 1839 and continued past 1851 [during the gold rush], many potentially sheared for up to 9 seasons, & possibly contributed significantly to they families income & reducing their passage debts.

Two families on the 'Zebra' have been document as having had daughters who shear.  It is probable that their mothers brought their shearing skills from Brandenburg & taught their daughters before or becoming 15 years of age.
