            Gibsonville, North Carolina is located in Guilford County in the 27249 zip code. The town of Gibsonville is known as the “City of Roses,” and is located in the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina, found between Greensboro and Burlington.

            Gibsonville was founded on February 18,1871, and is named after Joseph Gibson, who was an emigrant from Edinborough, Scotland. He requested that the town be named after him, because he did not have any sons to carry on his name. The incorporation of Gibsonville occurred six days after the Civil War ended, during the “Reconstruction Days.” The oldest building in Gibsonville that was constructed with brick was the W.R. Cobb building on Lewis Street, which was built by M. L. Fogleman, and held the offices of Waynick Insurance Agency and Wade’s Jewelers. Businesses began to grow in Gibsonville in 1887 when Mr. Berry Davidson sold his mill at Altamahaw and chose Gibsonville for his new location. The Bank of Gibsonville was the town’s first bank, which was opened in 1907. Many of Gibsonville’s streets are named in honor of well-known people of Gibsonville and who held high positions in the town, such as Joyner Street, which is named in honor of Professor J. H. Joyner, a principal of Gibsonville Public School for several years and owner of much of the real estate in the town, and Owen Street, which is named in honor of Mr A. B. Owen, who served as the Town Alderman for forty years.

Throughout recent years, Gibsonville has grown tremendously. In the year 1901, records show that Gibsonville had 80 homes, 2 cotton mills, 3 or 4 merchandise establishments and a population of about 500. In 2010, the population of Gibsonville was 6,410, which was a 46.6 percent increase from 2000. There were an estimated 2,964 males and 3,446 females in Gibsonville in 2010. The estimated median household income in 2000 was $42,989, but had risen to $48,684 by 2009. The estimated median house value in 2000 was $94,200, and had risen to $165,291 by 2009. Just from 2000 to 2009, Gibsonville statistically grew as a town.

Currently, the mayor of Gibsonville is Leonard Williams, who’s term expires in November of 2015. The mayor protem is Mark Sheperd, who’s term also expires in November of 2015. The town manager is currently Ben Baxley.

Today, Gibsonville has a plethora of businesses in the area. Once Upon a Chocolate is a favorite, which is a handmade chocolate store that sells everything from strawberries with a chocolate tuxedo design to key lime truffles to chocolate and caramel apples. Jazzy Jewelz is a business also located in Gibsonville that sells many different kinds of jewelry, from glass pendants with real butterfly wings inside to pendants featuring different gemstones, like purple druzy and amethyst, to sterling silver bracelets. Gibsonville Antiques and Collectibles, a family owned antique store, is also in Gibsonville. The store is located inside of the original building of the textile mill known as the Mineola plant, which was built in 1868 by Berry Davidson. Gibsonville is also the home to many restaurants to please anybody’s taste buds, from Jack’s Barbeque to Just Pizza to Pete’s Grill and The Flour Bin Bakery. The town of Gibsonville also organizes town events, like an annual Fall Festival in downtown Gibsonville, which features a children’s area with pumpkin painting and inflatables, vendors, and a variety of featured entertainment.  

Since its establishment in 1871, Gibsonville, North Carolina has grown considerably, now providing residents with a town that has a variety of options for shopping and eating, and also town wide events to bring the residents of this historic town together.
