Walkerdance Ballet Theatre is a small dance studio and company in Downtown Burlington, North Carolina.
Walkerdance's main focus is on ballet. Pointe is taught as well. The founder, John Walker, and the current teachers, believe that ballet is an important core technique to master in order to do any other form of dance. Ballet can teach discipline and commitment. Working hard can gain you a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. Walkerdance prides itself on it's performers and their strong commitment to ballet and proven achievement. Whether or not they continue to a dancing career, students learn how to truly be a part of an organization and shine.
Each year, they put on their annual performance of the Nutcracker. These performances are now held at Elon University. This year, 2012, the performances are December 14th, 15th, and 16th. This year will be their thirty-first year of performing this ballet. Other performances include the May Garden Performance and the North Carolina School for the Arts Dance Festival. The May Garden Performance takes place here in Downtown Burlington annually behind the train station depot. During February, Walkerdance travels to UNC to dance with other schools and dancing professionals throughout the United States.
