American Apparel is a clothing store at 619 East Liberty Street between State and Maynard. Sells clothing for women, men, children, and babies. The clothing largely consists of solid colors with no branding or messages showing.
American Apparel is a distinctive company because their entire product line as well as their advertising is produced in a single factory in downtown Los Angeles (the largest in the United States). In addition to having 100% American made (read: no sweat shops) products, they have undertaken many measures to treat their employees more fairly than even other American clothing companies. This is self-described by American Apparel as "vertically integrated". See the American Apparel website for specific details.
The company is not without controversy, however. The CEO of American Apparel, Dov Charney, has been accused of harassment by several female employees (one suit was recently dismissed). He openly admits to having "consensual" relations with subordinates -- which would be considered per se harassment in most companies -- and performed oral s-x on an employee in front of a reporter.
