Aura Rosser (? - Nov. 9, 2014) was shot and killed by a City of Ann Arbor police officer at her home, after her boyfriend called 911 during an argument. Rosser was a Lansing native and Cass Tech graduate who had moved to Ann Arbor about a month prior.
On Jan. 30, 2015, Washtenaw County prosecuting attorney Brian Mackie announced that no charges would be brought against AAPD officer David Ried. [Copy of Mackie's 12-page memo: Aura Rosser Memo 30Jan2015- MSP 10-1075-14.pdf]
From the Ann Arbor News initial description of the incident:
The two officers were called to the 2000 block of Winewood of Ann Arbor around 11:45 p.m. for a domestic disturbance. Police say Rosser "confronted" the officers with a knife, prompting him to use deadly force to stop her.
Rosser's sister remembered her to the News as:
"She was very artistic," she said. "She was deeply into painting with oils and acrylics. She's a culture-type of gal. She was a really sweet girl. Wild. Outgoing. Articulate."
and to have a love of cooking, having worked previously as a restaurant manager.
After the incident, the two officers involved in the shooting were put on leave from active road patrol while the Michigan State Police investigated.
