Comcast provides cable television and internet services to area residents. Comcast has franchise agreements with various local communities, including Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, providing it with a monopoly on local cable television in exchange for fees and services to the local governments. In Ann Arbor, the franchise funds CTN, and, in Ypsilanti, the fees go to the struggling general fund - as a result, many are opposed to recent bills before the Michigan legislature that have threatened this local monopoly system. On the other side, people have complained that Comcast's local monopoly is accompanied by high fees and poor service.
