DTE is DTE Energy, an energy company that provides electrical and natural gas service in south-eastern lower Michigan.

Corporate Blather

DTE Energy Co. (NYSE: DTE) is a Detroit, Michigan-based utility incorporated in 1995 involved in the development and management of energy-related businesses and services nationwide.

Subsidaries

Detroit Edison

Is the electrical utility.

Prior to the Three Mile Island accident in 1979, it's Enrico Fermi Nuclear Generating Station had the dubious distinction of coming closest to a meltdown in the United States. Of course, the Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine trumped both.

It was the westernmost electric utility to collapse during the Northeast Blackout of 2003.

Over the past decade, the utility's efforts to improve service reliability has resulted in a large number of road-side trees with a distinctive Y shaped topiary style. (Trees in residential areas just get lopped off.)

Good Utility

They do publish a Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti area DTE Power Outage Map.

MichCon

(formerly Michigan Consolidated Gas Company) Is the natural gas utility. I'm afraid that this author (Rsc) doesn't have anything snarky to say about them.

DTE and ITC operate a number of electrical substations around town at various voltages. The rare substation fire usually results in widespread power outages.
