Ford Lake is one of the largest impoundments on the Huron River, around 1.5 square miles in area stretching from I-94 at the upriver end to the Ford Lake Dam downriver. Ypsilanti Township has an extensive park system along the edges of the lake.

Dan White of Ypsilanti heads into the freezing waters of Ford Lake during the Ford Lake Frozen Leap Saturday. It was White's second jump in. The event was a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. Members of the Ypsilanti Fire Department as well as local emergency EMS were on hand as a precautionary measure.

In 1973, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources wanted to turn Ypsilanti’s Ford Lake into a fisherman’s paradise. They planned to stock it with muskellunge, rainbow trout, and large- and smallmouth bass.
