Gary L. Vaught, 73, of Ypsilanti, Mich., passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2011.

He was born July 18, 1938 in Parkersburg, the son of Dorr Daggett and Beatrice (Newberry) Vaught. He grew up in Parkersburg, graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1956 and attended Southside Church of Christ (now known as Camden Avenue Church of Christ), where his father served as an Elder.

On Sept. 12, 1959, Gary married Jane Clary in Paris, Tenn., and she survives. He attended Freed-Hardeman College in Henderson, Tenn. and Rochester College in Rochester, Mich., where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biblical Studies, Magnum Cum Laude. He also received his Master of Science in Biblical Studies from Glendale University in Glendale, Calif.

He truly loved the Lord and he became active in the church at a very early age, going around preaching at area Churches of Christ when he was in his early teens. He preached his first sermon in 1953 at the age of 15 and preached his last sermon this year at Ypsilanti Church of Christ, the church he pastored for over 36 years.

In addition to his loving wife of 52 years, survivors include: two brothers, Frank Hilton (Louise) of Williamstown, and Darrell (Norma) of Parkersburg; five nieces; three nephews; and several great- nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harold Harlan (Tex) Vaught and one sister, Janice Harmon.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Camden Avenue Church of Christ where visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service. Mr. Leonard White will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park South.
