Prue Rosenthal is a member of the Ann Arbor District Library board, and was most recently elected in 2012 to a four-year term. She currently serves as the board's president.
Rosenthal also serves on the board of the Jewish Community Center of the Greater Ann Arbor Area. She previously was a board member the University Musical Society for seven years, and was its chair for three years. She also served on the national advisory board for the University of Michigan Museum of Art.
She is married to Ami (Amnon) Rosenthal, a pediatric cardiologist and professor emeritus at the University of Michigan department of pediatrics and communicable diseases. They met at Boston Children’s Hospital, when Ami Rosenthal was a resident and Prue was a secretary. She converted to Judaism and they married in 1962.
In a 2014 article published by The Ann magazine, Prue Rosenthal described how they accommodated their differences: “I became a Jew and he became less Orthodox Jew. He learned the WASP custom of a cocktail hour and I learned to eat herring, challah and chicken soup. He learned that I needed different clothes and shoes for different occasions and I learned that he didn’t!”
The Rosenthals founded the Save a Heart Foundation to raise funds for the UM Pediatric Congenital Heart Center. The couple has three grown children and lives in the Ann Arbor Hills neighborhood.
