Robert C. Metcalf (born Nov. 7, 1923) is an Ann Arbor-based architect, who began designing professionally in 1946 under George B. Brigham, a practicing architect and University of Michigan professor, while still a student in the architecture program.
Metcalf has designed over 150 projects in Michigan and Ohio, including 68 in Ann Arbor and Barton Hills, including his own home on Arlington Boulevard, built in 1954, and many others in mid-century modern styles at request of colleagues and faculty members.
In addition to his private practice, Metcalf joined the faculty of the College of Architecture and Urban Planning in 1955, served as chairman from 1968-1974, and as dean from 1974 to 1986, retiring as professor emeritus in 1991.
