Parents' Day Out:
The PDO program at First Presbyterian Church was established in 1978, and has been serving families in the Northwest Suburbs for more than 35 years. Some of the first PDO students are now PDO parents themselves. At Parents’ Day Out, a loving and qualified staff cares for children from 6 months to 5 years of age. PDO is offered on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm. Note: PDO is closed on Wednesday. The PDO day is somewhat structured, but allows for flexibility to accommodate the children’s needs. Time is provided for free play, crafts, music, stories, organized classroom activities, and activities in the gymnasium and outside (weather permitting). In the morning, the children share a snack time together, which is provided by PDO. Children bring their own lunch and enjoy eating with their PDO friends.

Description:
Members and friends of First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights grow in faith and community through worship, learning, and service. The congregation seeks to share this connection, this love of God, with the world. First Pres offers worship experiences in different styles for different preferences.
The church also provides Christian education for all ages, preschool through adults. In addition to Sunday and weekday opportunities for education, the church offers a free Anniversary Speaker series, which draws in notable scholars, celebrities, peacemakers, and others to share their stories with the community. The 4:11 children's after-school program for kids (grades K-5) offers opportunities to Sing, Play, Learn, and Eat on Wednesday afternoons, fall through spring each year, from 4:11 pm to 6:15 pm. The First Pres Parents' Day Out Program is well-known in the community as a safe and caring place for children (6 mo. - 5 years old) to enjoy social interaction and early learning experiences.
Mission and service are important to the congregation, which dedicates approximately 30 percent of its annual giving income to local, national, and international mission. Each year, the church sends a team to the Dominican Republic to assist the people of the Gaspar Hernandez region. The church also collaborates with other local churches to send a team to South Dakota to help the Dakota Sioux people in Sisseton. Both these mission efforts focus on building relationships and partnerships with the local churches and people and assisting with construction and maintenance and other structural, safety, and health needs in these communities, providing health and educational resources, and encouraging and supporting families. The church also offers many other local, national, and international mission opportunities for children and families, youth, and adults of all ages.
Music is highly valued at First Pres. The church has many talented musicians who share their gifts during worship and special events including concerts and recitals. First Pres has a regional reputation for the quality of its annual Concert Series, which encourages appreciation of the arts in the community. The Concert Series attracts many talented Chicago area artists and ensembles to share their musical talents.
