About Wish Bone Canine Rescue
Wish Bone Canine Rescue is a not-for-profit, volunteer, no-kill organization whose primary focus is finding permanent homes for surrendered, abandoned, neglected and abused dogs from within Bloomington-Normal and the surrounding areas.
- They believe all dogs deserve a second chance for a new beginning.
- They do not discriminate based on a dog’s breed, age or health.
- They believe in the importance of placing each dog in a loving and caring home environment as soon as possible. This is accomplished exclusively through their foster home program.
- They place great emphasis on the rehabilitation of sick and unsocialized dogs, providing them with all necessary veterinary care.
- They spay/neuter all of their foster dogs.
- They are advocates of educating the public in the areas of proper canine care and responsible pet ownership.
Wish Bone Canine Rescue's guiding principle is:
“saving just one animal won’t change the world…but, surely, the world will change for that one animal.”

Foster Care Program
Their Foster Care Program saves lives this way: Dogs who may otherwise be destroyed at an overcrowded shelter are temporarily placed with, their foster family, until a forever family is found.
Foster Parents are never under any obligation. Foster Parents can return their foster pet to Wish bone anytime, for any reason. They may foster a pet once a year or once a week.
All the dogs at Wish bone receive a health check, vaccinations, deworming and a temperament test before going to their Foster Home. Wish Bone only requires that people give foster dogs food, shelter, and love. Foster parents who do incur expenses (such as purchasing food), may get a tax break.
Becoming a foster parent/family is a great way to get directly involved in rescue work. Dogs benefit from a home environment and the personal care, attention and training given by a foster parent is invaluable.
People who are interested in becoming a foster parent/family can visit the website to read their Foster Care Agreement and fill out a Foster Application.
