Interstate 90 - Buffalo

Interstate 90 (I-90), also partially the New York State Thruway, runs through Buffalo carrying traffic from Rochester in the east to Erie, Pennsylvania in the west. Interstate 90 is toll-free throughout its route through the Buffalo Area. It was built through the 1950s.

Route Description in Buffalo

The highway, starting in Angola, runs roughly northeast and parallel to the Lake Erie shoreline until Exit 56, where it begins to turn due north. The route becomes toll free at the Lackawanna Toll Gantry, and interchanges with Ridge Road and US 219 at exit 55. Both highways NY 400 (Aurora Expressway), and I-190 (Niagara Thruway) both intersect at I-90 at exits 54 and 53, respectively. The highway also gains two lanes to accommodate traffic as it bypasses the City of Buffalo. It runs due north and passes the Walden Galleria near exit 52E/W and intersects NY 33 (Kensington Expressway) at exit 51. At exit 50, the road loses two lanes, which in turn travel to Interstate 290. The route bends due East, and encounters the Williamsville Toll Gantry near Youngs Road. The thruway crosses over NY 78 (Transit Road) before leaving the Buffalo area in the east.
