Sporting events supporting non-gun violence (Chicago)                                                                         

Gun Violence is a violent crime committed with a firearm.  In its annual crime statistics for 2016, the Chicago Police Department reported that the city experienced a dramatic rise in gun violence, with 4,331 shooting victims. The department also reported 762 murders in Chicago for the year 2016, a total that marked a 62.79% increase in homicides from 2015. Despite its rank as the nation's third-most-populous city, Chicago continued to outpace New York and Los Angeles in the number of homicides.  However, it ranks 14th among American cities in murders per capita. An organization, Chicago Cred, was put together by Chicago residents to not only help victims of gun violence, but the victims' families and friends also. 

Types of violence/Crime                                                                                                                          

There are multiple types of gun violence.

Domestic- Brady United states that every 16 hours a woman is shot and killed by an ex or current lover. 

Suicide- Suicide by firearm is the leading cause of gun violence in America. About 60% of deaths due to a firearm is suicide. 

Individual- This a crime committed with a gun, where someone dies. 

StridesForPeace                                                                                                                  

This community helps to influence citizens by running a marathon (5k,8k,2-mile walk, toddler kid's sprints) that helps raise a fundraiser for donations that the community does for the adults and young people as well. Doing fundraisers and donations deals with supporting no gun violence.  This organization raises donations by 100% every two weeks. Another thing that's cool is this community is expanding and merging into different states in the U.S. as well.  
 

Causes

Substances (drugs) can be cause someone to commit a gun violence crime, either from the drug itself or while trying to rob someone.

Gun Violence comes from more external problems, like gang violence and other types of crime. 

Support for Sporting Events

The support Chicago has so far is great for what the future can hold. For example, Strides for Peace is a movement to help the society around Chicago succeed towards no fear and no gun violence. There are sporting event partnered with "Stridesforpeace" called "Kids off the block". This organization involves a basketball league for kids so that their attention is not on the streets and guns. These events helped people get out of gangs, stopped violence, and help defeat gun violence by these different movements.   With lots of partnerships like "Kids off the block", "West town bikes", and "Paving the Way", there's many more but these organizations that play a part of non-gun violence as well.
