Robbie Q. Telfer is a poet, performer, youth mentor, and gardener who lives with his family in Logan Square. He has travelled around the world with his poems and also performed them frequently at the Green Mill, most often with the Speak'Easy Poetry Ensemble (Joel Chmara, Tim Stafford, Molly Meacham, Dan Sullivan, and Mary Fons, under the direction of Marc Kelly Smith). With Shanny Jean Maney, Telfer also co-founded The Encyclopedia Show, a live variety extravaganza about different topics from bears to colors to the prairie. He was Director of Performances at Young Chicago Authors for a very long time and also, and a head organizer at Louder Than a Bomb, the largest youth-based poetry slam in the world. He is the author of two full-length poetry collections, My Huge Heart Still Has No Room for You and Spiking the Sucker Punch (Write Bloody). A true community organizer, Telfer is equally great at performing onstage and making space for other people on it.
