New Trends

• Headshops and Hookah galore! Three headshops opened on Nord/Walnut/32, The Hookah Spot (hookah bar) opened on Nord/W. Sacramento Ave. in addition to Headz Up, and finally another headshop is on 5th and Cherry Streets
• Use of OpenStreetMap (website) by Chicoans literally exploded and now Chico is getting the attention it deserves on the Creative Commons Share Alike (culture is free!) mapping project.

Continuing Trends

• From 2008, Tattoo parlors are still proliferating at a serious clip in Chico.

Major News

• H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu) became a cause of concern.
• Circuit City went out of business early March 2009, causing many job losses.
• Gottschalks also went out of business in summer of 2009.
• Forever 21 took over Gottschalks' rent and quickly opened in August.
