Costco is a large warehouse store located in South Chico. A membership is necessary in order to shop in Costco, which costs approximately $50 every year. They carry a wide variety of goods, from groceries to electronics to clothing and more. There is a gas station on the premises, as well as a pharmacy and one hour photo. Much of what they sell (especially food and household goods) are sold in bulk quantities.

Costco does not accept credit cards except for American Express. They do accept debit cards, cash, and checks.

Costco has had a presence in Chico for years. The original store was located adjacent to the current location. In 2007 a new, larger store was built next to the old location. The original store stayed open until the new store opened, leaving no down time in between. The old building was torn down after the opening of the new.

2012-06-02 18:05:16   I was there when Costco first opened sometime in the early 90s. Dad worked at the Feather River Hospital that allowed him to get in as in those days it wasn't open to just anybody. —

2012-06-02 18:08:04   In those days you had to either own a resturant or work in the medical field which Dad was a pharmacist dealing with prescriptions so we had clearance to use Costoc. It was 2 hours to Chico but we got it down to going once a month on payday. Costco has everything in bulk because it was originally made for resturants but in the mid-late 90s they opened it up to the average person who could afford the membership fee which is annually. (once a year from date of purchase) —

2012-06-02 18:09:56   One thing that's been noticeable at Costco is that kid snacks are being done in *party mode* where instead of these giant size boxes it's done in a whole bunch of little packs. Cheeze It's are the only snacks I know of still done box format while everything else is baggies you rip open. —
