Gertrude Chavis (1886-1946) was the wife of Homer Chavis, the owner of Royal Cleaners in Champaign. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church and the Baha'i group. She was born in Shawneetown in 1886. She had a sister, two brothers, an adopted daughter (Mabel McDowell).
She and her husband accumulated a great amount of property in Champaign-Urbana. She was also active in the Eastern Starts, Debora Chapter 27. Most of her family lived in the Indianapolis region.
