Born on Christmas Day, 1900, in Paris, Tennessee, where his family farmed, Mr. Holt came to Champaign in 1921. He did "all kinds of work," first at the Illinois Central Coal Chute and then at Clifford-Jacobs forging plant. During the Depression he worked in the WPA and from World War II until his retirement in the mid-sixties he had his own sanitary hauling business. All these years he recalled in 1983, "I was always able to work and
support my family."
