Zeta Beta Tau or ZBT is the nation's first Jewish fraternity, founded in 1898. As of 1954, ZBT is a non-sectarian international fraternity and accepts brothers on the basis of character, not religious affiliation. On the night of November 1, 2016, 7 Founding Fathers were initiated as brothers of Zeta Beta Tau, recolonizing the Epsilon Chi chapter at UC Davis.
ZBT emphasizes "brotherhood for a lifetime," and cultivates a strong, successful network of gentlemen of good character. The members range from many different cultures and backgrounds, yet ZBT acts as the synergistic hub between members and the UC Davis campus.
Mission Statement: The mission of Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity is to foster and develop in its membership the tenets of its Credo: Intellectual Awareness, Social Responsibility, Integrity and Brotherly Love in order to cultivate leadership and service within their communities.
Mindful of its founding as the Nation’s first Jewish Fraternity, Zeta Beta Tau will seek to serve the undergraduate Jewish populations at colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada. All men of good character will be eligible for membership in Zeta Beta Tau.
Philanthropy: Zeta Beta Tau at UC Davis strives to better the world, starting with campus. The most notable philanthropy is Get on the Ball, which involves rolling a six-foot inflatable ball around campus in order to collect signatures for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, in partnership with the Davis Children's Hospital.
Sexual Assault Awareness: The Brothers at Zeta Beta Tau consider sexual assault awareness to be a crucial topic of discussion, particularly on college campuses. Even more than providing awareness, however, is education and action. ZBT, partnered with Jewish Women International, has embraced the Green Light Go project to utilize the game of Red Light Green Light to educate peers about preventing sexual assault. Whether its through bystander intervention or a reformation of cultural behavior, ZBT is fully committed to deterring sexual assult.
Recruitment: Zeta Beta Tau holds rush at the start of most quarters. They do not have a pledge term, and brothers are initiated within 72 hours of receiving a bid.
