Greensboro City Council Chambers
Overview
The Greensboro City Council chambers, located inside the Melvin Municipal Office Building in downtown Greensboro, is where the Greensboro City Council and other city committees hold meetings. Arranged in a square room, the council bench is found on the opposite side of the public entrance. The bench has nine seats for the nine members of the City Council. Directly in front of the bench are two tables for important parties where city officials and others sit. To the left of these tables is a podium for public speakers to address the council. Finally, there are multiple rows of seating for the public.
Other Uses
City boards and commissions use the chambers to hold public meetings same as the city council. With 17 in total, examples of committees that hold meetings inside the chambers are Minimum Housing Standards Commission, Solid Waste Management Commission and the Community Sustainability Council. All meetings of both the city council and boards and commissions are open to the public and announced on the city’s website.
Location
The City Council chambers is housed inside the Melvin Municipal Building at Governmental Plaza in downtown Greensboro. The plaza holds many of both Greensboro and Guilford County’s government. Inside the Melvin Municipal Building one can find offices for the city attorney, clerk, and manager as well as departments such as economic development and the Greensboro Television Network.
