General About the Organization/Mission

The Monongalia County Starting Points Family Resource Center focuses on families with younger children who do not have great access to books, internet, or early education programs and provide services for literacy promotion and awareness.

Issues of Focus

The services provided are intended to meet family needs including resource coordination for early childhood education between resource center activists and parent.  All services are provided at no cost regardless of income per household.

Developmental activities/information given at monthly home visits

Infant/toddler playgroups
Parent/Caregiver and children ages 0-3yrs meet for weekly fun

Developmental screenings
Ages & Stages Questionnaire

Newborn baby outreach visits
Basket of baby supplies and information brought to your door

AmeriCorps school tutoring
Volunteers provide tutoring to PreK-2nd grade students at Skyview & Mylan Park Elementary Schools

After school/summer enrichment
Afterschool Art, Multicultural Camp, etc

Family fun/literacy nights
Dr. Seuss Nights, Literacy Egg Hunt, etc

AmeriCorps service projects
Read Across America Day, MLK Day, etc

Parent/community education
First Aid/CPR certification, parenting education, etc
