Chauncey Taylor (1822-1896) was on the City Council in 1863, 1864 and 1865.
Taylor was born in Connecticut. He came to California in 1849 and arrived in Oakland in 1861 where he established a lumber business. He lived at 704 - 8th Street.
Death and Burial
After an illness of 3 days, died of apoplexy (a stroke). 1 He is buried in Mountain View Cemetery along with Sarah Jane. Taylor died a wealthy man and his will was disputed in courts for years and discussed widely in newspapers.
