Civil Unrest

Civil unrest! Oakland has so much of this because of CIVIC TENSION and SYSTEMIC PROBLEMS that have gone unaddressed for long periods of time. It's historical, too- think strikes, BPP, etc.

This is one of City Council's favorite reasons to clamp down on the citizenry and roll out all kinds of crazy hair-brained schemes to clamp down on all the unrestivity.

List of things that are sometimes closed due to civil unrest:

• 12th street bart station
• 19th street bart station
• the port
• Men's Wearhouse
• shops downtown and/or in Chinatown
• Frank Ogawa Plaza
• The Chase branch on 14th and Broadway
• Sections of streets downtown like Broadway and Telegraph
