Eastshore Park turns out to be the official name of the (unmarked? anyone know?) greensward near Lake Merritt’s Embarcadero which contains the Lakeview Branch Library, Astro Circle, the proposed site of a controversial dog park, and also (on the other side of the freeway) what these kids nowadays call Splash Pad Park and the Farmer’s Market area.
Because its wooden sign disappeared years ago (around the time the city stopped putting up Nativity scenes at Christmas — oh yes they did, folks, you best believe), many people today can’t remember – or never knew – the place’s proper name, so you often hear it referred to as Lakeview Park, Library Park, or Astro Park.
Because of the changes in the dogs-in-parks law in April, 2014, dogs are now allowed on-leash in this park.
