Lake Merritt Bioblitz
February 23, 2014, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM PST
RSVP/Event Info here.
Participants will photograph and document ALL! life inside of Lakeside Park at the Bioblitz which is hosted by WildOakland and Nerds for Nature. You probably know Lake Merritt as a great place for a walk or a weekend cookout, but it's also full of wildlife, especially below the water where few of us get to go. We're going to try and see how many species we can find in and around this Oakland landmark, so come out and join us!
Meet at the Rotary Nature Center, 600 Bellevue Ave, bring a smartphone and camera- the photos will then be uploaded to iNaturalist, an online database of life on Earth.
LEARN YOUR BIRDS Experience the lake's wide array of winter migrants before they leave for the arctic. There are few better places than Lake Merritt to get close-up views! |
EXPLORE THE MUD FLATS Roll up your sleeves, get dirty, and meet some of the weird and wonderful creepy crawlies that live in Lake Merritt's mudflats as we sift through some mud. |
GO UNDERWATER WITH ROBOTS The cool folks from OpenROV will be letting people drive their underwater robots so you can see what the bottom of Lake Merritt looks like. |
