Well, so everyone either knows, or they should, that Phantasm (1979) was a very tweaked, nightmarish piece of genre-defying filmmaking. Too fantastic to be a pure horror movie, yet too creepy/scary to be sci-fi or … whatever it’s trying to be, it has a major Oakland connection (despite being mostly filmed in SoCal) in that its most memorable outdoor scenes were shot at Dunsmuir House, which stood in for the “Morningside Funeral Home”.
