The Society of Six was group of painters in the 1910s and 1920s, noted for their use of color and plein air painting (painting outdoors). They often met at "Chow House", the home of one of the members on Chabot Road.
The members were:
- Selden Connor Gile (1877–1947) — founder, and owner of Chow House
- William Henry Clapp (1879–1924) — curator of the Oakland Art Gallery, predecessor of the Oakland Museum of California
- Maurice Logan (1886–1977) — professor at California College of the Arts and Crafts (see abitofhistory.site)
- August (Gus) François Pierre Gay (1890–1948)
- Louis Siegriest (1899–1989)
- Bernard James von Eichman (1899–1970)
