The Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment is Oakland's Video Game Museum. Known simply as "The MADE," the museum is host to free programming classes for kids, playable exhibitions of historically significant works, lectures, competitive tournaments, game development meet-ups, parties and community events. The MADE is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, dedicated to the preservation of video game history, and to educating the public as to how video games are created. It is entirely volunteer run and provides educational credits for high school and college students.
The Museum is also dedicated to the heralding of video games as an artistic medium. From showcasing artistically valid games to documenting the timeline of the industry of games across the world, The MADE offers a unique experience for learning as well as playing. The MADE is a wonderful place to spend a day on your own, or with friends and family!
In August 2020, The MADE closed its location on Broadway due to an issue with rent combined with reduced admissions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Two years later in 2022, it reopened at its current location on 921 Washington Street in Swan's Market across the street from the Oakland Convention Center, in the former location of Endgame.
The MADE is open Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10am-5pm, Fridays and Saturdays 11am - 9pm, and Sundays 11am-7pm. Admission is $7.00.
