The Trappist
photo from Our OaklandThe Trappist was a Belgian-style beer pub founded in 2007 in Old Oakland. Its space is now occupied by a Sante Adairius taproom called The Arbor. Located in a building that dates to the 1870s, the Trappist actually had two bars (and an outdoor (dog-friendly) area in the back) and served over 100 types of beer. Its beer list leaned heavily towards Belgian, Scandinavian, Dutch, and American craft breweries. They also had a nice bar snack menu in the contemporary California style (really nice olives, homemade pickles, etc.). They also served wine.
The Trappist closed during the Covid pandemic. Its website is still active in case the owners resume business.
Awards
The Trappist was the recipient of the East Bay Express Best Beer Bar Readers' Poll Award in 2014 and 2015.
Won 2014 "Readers' Choice" Best Bar in Oakland Magazine.
