Transgender Day of Remembrance

TDOR is a day of sharing, silence, support, community and building gateways to gender awareness and sensitivity. The event will feature community speakers, elected leaders and a reading of the names of those who were killed due to anti-transgender violence.
There will be a reading of the names of those who were killed. Following the ceremony at City Hall, there will be a candlelight vigil at the corner of 13th and Franklin Streets, where Brandy Martell was murdered more than a year ago.
Honorary Co-Hosts for the Oakland/East Bay Day of Remembrance Event are Congressman George Miller, D-7, Congressman Mike Honda, D-17, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, D-13, California State Senate Majority Leader Ellen M. Corbett, Honorable Jean Quan, Mayor of Oakland, Assemblymember Rob Bonta, Rebecca D. Kaplan, Oakland Council President Pro Tem, Oakland City Council Member Lynette Gibson McElhaney.
The Oakland Police Department and Chief Sean Whent will participate (see nixle).
