Oakland and Surroundings was an early (published 1885) bit of boosterism, a book extolling the virtues of Oakland. It is full of lithographs of buildings and sights around Oakland, Berkeley and Alameda, with text describing the ”advantages for residence or business”.
The book was printed by W.W. Elliott, a publisher with offices at 921 Broadway. Even in 1885, people recognized things like the great weather and location.
