The Joel Lane Museum House is an authentic restoration of an 18th-century manor house. The site provides a vehicle for 21st-century Americans to reflect on what their country means to them and to understand the sacrifices made by their ancestors.  Joel Lane is regarded as the "Father of Raleigh" due to his work in facilitating the relocation of Raleigh's capital city from Tryon Palace at New Bern to the new central-NC location on his property.

Hours: The site is open for guided tours led by costumed guides. Wednesday through Friday, tours begin at 10:00 am, 11:00 am, noon, and 1:00 pm. On Saturday, tours begin at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00 pm.

Admission: $5 for adults, $4 for seniors 65+, $3 for students, and free for children 5 and under. Not suitable for children under that age of 4. The Visitors Center is handicapped accessible, but the museum buildings are not.  By appointment in advance, an alternative guided virtual tour is available for those who cannot climb steps.

Parking is free and on the street. Strollers are prohibited in the museum buildings. Infants and young toddlers must be carried.

Off Season: The Joel Lane Museum House is closed from mid-December to March 1st except on Saturdays. The site is open for special events during this time and is open for group tours by appointment. The office and gift shop are often open even if the Museum is closed.
