It's hard to find fault with one of downtown Raleigh's best restaurants. Poole's Diner serves up delicious, fresh, locally sourced contemporary cuisine with a slight Southern influence. The menu changes daily depending on the season and ingredients with a few standards (like the decadent mac-n-cheese and perfect roast chicken) always represented. Smallish dining area with a very casual and hip vibe nestled in next to a large bar area serving up creative cocktails and a nice selection of beer and wine. No reservations + popular restaurant = long waits on the weekend, but get there right when they open at 6pm or come later on for best chances of getting a table. Poole's also serves up an outstanding brunch on Sundays from 11am-3pm, with eggs benedict, the BEST huevos rancheros, delicious french toast and other classics.
