The Hudson

formerly the Hudson-Belk Department Store

(1940; 2006) - 319 Fayetteville Street

William H. Deitrick; Clearscapes

In 1940 the Hudson-Belk Department Store opened at this address. Featuring Raleigh’s first escalator, the store was a downtown mainstay until its closure in 1995. The name Hudson lives on in the current structure housing retail space and condominiums. To transform the department store, the old building was gutted and extensively rebuilt

Commercial space on the first floor houses ABC TV studios, Sono Sushi, The Oxford, UPS Store, Manhatten Deli.
