Solar Charging
In 2011, a collaboration project between the City of Raleigh and Progress Energy was formed to do an experiment on using solar power to charge electric vehicles. A solar array and charging station, built by GE, was installed in a parking lot at the corner of Salisbury and Lenoir Streets in downtown Raleigh. The two year pilot will monitor energy generation and use. After the pilot is over, the city can choose to either remove the installation or keep it for future use.

Here is a list of known locations of EV charging stations separated by city/town. This list includes stations available to the public and most have the standard 220/240 V plug as well as a conventional 110 V outlet. At this time, almost all of the stations have free electricity as the carriers are experimenting with demand as well as usage of the stations. Be aware though that normal parking fees apply in certain areas.
