Description
Raoul Wallenberg Park is a major park of the city of San Jose. It has a exercise course, and the Wallenberg Gardens - a community garden project - is next to it. While the park is closed after sunset, the tennis courts are along the street-side.
The park is named for Raoul Wallenberg. He saved thousands of people from being sent to the Natzi concentration camps during World War II. Although he was a Swedish diplomat, who never visited the USA, he was considered a US operative listed with the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). He was taken by the Russians, sent to Lubyanka (a prison in Moscow) where it is presumed he died in 1947.
There are parks named for Raoul Wallenberg in Hungary, Canada, Israel, and other US states.
