Ansel Adams visited Santa Cruz a number of times over the span of his career in photography, both to persue subjects for his own photographic projects, and to lead photography workshops.

1950s

• Ansel Adams was friends with Ansley Salz, the owner of Salz Tannery, and in 1955 Salz asked Adams to photograph their process at the tannery. The images can be viewed: here

1960s

• In the summer of 1967 Adams, along with Beaumont and Nancy Newhall conducted a photography workshop through the University Extension program at UCSC, and the photos were published in the book Twelve Days at Santa Cruz.
• Local photographer Ted Orland works as an assistant to Adams in Yosemite, starting in 1967
