Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park is one of the two state parks in the area that has an old-growth trail that showcases the old giants (the other is in Big Basin Redwoods State Park). The oldest Redwood trees in the park are about 1400-1800 years old. The tallest on the old-growth trail measures about 281 ft in height by 17 ft in diameter. The day use area of the park is free to visitors who choose to hike or bike in, but bikes are allowed on only four trails within the park trail system; dogs are allowed on three trails. The $10 fee at the day use entrance is for parking, the main parking lot being conveniently located in front of the old-growth trail and next to Roaring Camp Railroad. There are two pull-outs along Hwy 9 and one pull-out along Graham Hill Road which allow free parking along the perimeter of the park. Two miles from Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park is the Fall Creek Unit of Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park (See Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park - Fall Creek Unit for more details.) Since 2005, the day use side of the park has offered free WiFi access near the park store.
