Kelly Lake is just north of the city limits of Watsonville. In 2000 a survey showed that most of the lake is between 5 and 6 meters deep (about 15-18 feet). The elevation is 52 feet above sea level. The lake is known for boating and fishing. Fish include small mouth bass. The lake area is about 260,000 square meters (about one-tenth of a square mile).
Kelly Lake is surrounded by private property. A private school, homes, and a rod and gun club.
Named for Edward Kelly who owned land attached to the lake. Edward Kelly came to the area about 1865. It has also appeared as White Lake on older maps. (Named for another property owner.)
On January 2, 2009, a UFO was reported above Kelly Lake and appears on youtube.com. Most agree the image appears to be the planet Venus photographed with a shaky camera. When Venus is visible, it twinkles and causes a color shift.
There is no public transportation directly to Kelly Lake. It has no public access.
