The two giant smoke stacks that can be seen across Monterey Bay from Santa Cruz are at the Dynegy's natural gas turbine power plant in Moss Landing, a small fishing town that is in Monterey County. The town is so close to our county that many here have a close relationship to it.

Moss Landing was originally called Moss. It changed its name to Moss Landing in 1917. The town is named for Charles Moss. Moss Landing harbor is home to many fishing boats and pleasure craft. Photo by John Pilge
