The Powder Mill Trail begins in a nice, shady mixed evergreen area of Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park near the free parking area adjacent to the horse showgrounds. After crossing the lush Powder Mill Creek area, the trail winds up a hill to a more sunny exposed area of the park that supports a great number of Huckleberry bushes.

The Powder Mill Trail and Powder Mill Creek where named after the California Powder Works.
