The Romero Institute is an interfaith, nonprofit law and policy center based in Santa Cruz, CA. It is led by the two co-founders Executive Director Sara Nelson and constitutional lawyer Daniel Sheehan.
As the successor of the Christic Institute, Romero's work centers on protecting constitutional, environmental, and indigenous rights. Currently, their main projects are the Lakota People's Law Project, based in South Dakota, and their climate action NGO, Green Power.
The Institute uses a combination of public education, community organizing, and legal action to bring about structural change to address the issues that threaten our human family.
