The Santa Cruz Hostel is a nice arrangement of one-storied wooden houses build by a seaman and other fancy people quite a while ago. It's managed by engaged and smart people, mostly girls (and Peter who is still looking to open another hostel in the Bay area - if you're into finding a partner for such a project).

Always a great place to stay, wifi works great in most areas (but not in every room). Kitchen is always filled with free food (either just expired food from local supermarkets or from other guests), so it's fun to cook with a great variety.

The only thing that's not convenient (but needed as otherwise people would begin to live there and mess all up) is the closure of all buildings during the daytime until 5PM. Just get used to it and enjoy the beach two blocks away.
