The Santa Cruz Main Beach, which spans the distance between the Santa Cruz Wharf and the San Lorenzo River, is probably the most popular/populated beach in Santa Cruz, due to the fact that it is adjacent to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Most of the people at this beach are tourists, and most Santa Cruzians have found more peaceful or more pleasurable beaches to go to. The waves there aren't usually very good, but the San Lorenzo River is just a short walk down the beach, and it can break well some years. The beach also has a large beach volleyball court area where international tournaments have been held, but on most days you'll find locals playing there casually. Beach facilities include restrooms and outdoor showers.
